Several injured today in shooting, stabbing

Staff report

Two people were shot at the ESA Park Apartments at 720 Kendis Circle on the East Side at about 9:40 tonight. Both were taken to hospital for treatment, but their conditions were not available.

Police said one of the victims had been taken to the hospital in a minivan before officers arrived at the apartment complex. The second victim was still at the scene.

It was the second shooting in the city in two days, with a 23-year-old man being shot at the South Avenue Gas Mart, 2325 South Ave., at 10:38 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was sitting in a car while his 32-year-old cousin went inside the store. When the cousin came out of the store, he saw two men inside the car with his cousin and another man standing outside of it wearing a ski mask and shooting a gun at his cousin.

The cousin returning from the store has a concealed-carry license and was carrying a handgun and fired it about five times at the suspects, who then ran off.

The name and condition of the victim were not provided by Youngstown police.

Police also investigated an armed robbery at Blue Ribbon Rentals, 3500 Market Street, at 7:31 tonight.

Police were called to the store by an employee who said two men approached him, one wearing a mask, the other in his 20s, carrying a gun and not wearing a mask. The suspects took $572 from the register and left. The robbery was captured on video, police said.

Warren police were investigating a stabbing this afternoon near the intersection of Hall Street Northwest and Gertrude Place Northwest. One man was taken to hospital in the 2:25 p.m. incident.
