Recount in Brookfield leaves same outcome

The recount conducted by the Trumbull County Board of Elections on Monday showed no change in the result of the Brookfield Local Schools levy, meaning it passes by one vote.

The board of elections hand-counted 172 votes — all of the votes cast in Brookfield Precinct L — and came up with no change in the result, said Kelly Pallante, elections board director.

That means the result certified May 28 — passage by a vote of 930 votes to 929 — will stand as the final result.

The levy was for 4.85 mills, enough to raise $606,002 annually on a continuing basis.

The Ohio Auditor’s Office placed the school district in fiscal emergency in mid-May, and it is likely to remain in that status for several years, despite approval of the additional revenue, said Tim Saxton, Brookfield superintendent.
