Dine al fresco

Published: Wed, June 5, 2013 @ 12:00 a.m.

Dine al fresco

Warm weather is welcome for a variety of reasons, but for many of us it signals the season for dining al fresco.

Whether stepping out back onto a porch or patio, or planning a picnic at the beach or park, the food is the star.

Recipes, including ones for Bean & Vegetable Salad and Beef & Horseradish Wraps (both above), showcase exciting flavors and easy preparation. C2

Give the gift of bacon

The Oscar Mayer brand is inspiring wives, girlfriends, mothers, and significant others to take a stand against clich mens’ gifts. Instead they now can express their love by giving the guys in their lives what they really want: bacon.

Oscar Mayer is offering consumers the opportunity to purchase its original bacon online in a limited release gift pack perfect for Father’s Day, anniversaries, birthdays or any special occasion.

Bundled in a velvet jewelers box, the Oscar Mayer Original Collection includes 18-20 slices of Oscar Mayer Original bacon, and is available in three gift sets: The Commander, which comes with a stainless steel money-clip engraved with the words “Bringin’ it Home” and an image of a bacon strip; The Matador, which features two handsome bacon strip cufflinks; and The Woodsman, which includes a rugged 12 function multitool with a bacon strip image carved into the handle.

The gift packages start at $22 and are available at www.SayItWithBacon.com from now through July 1, 2013. Quantities are limited.

New Pop-Tarts

The newest kind of Pop-Tart is Oatmeal Delights (frosted strawberry or “mapley” brown sugar).

The principal ingredient is whole-wheat flour, not oats, but each serving has 3 grams of fiber; other Pop-Tarts have less than 1 gram.
