Woman charged with OVI had her 7-year-old daughter as passenger
A Boardman woman was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired and child endangerment Sunday night, after she was found to be driving at twice the legal limit to be considered drunk.
Krista Wheatley, 28, of Boardman was stopped on Market Street in front of Boardman Center Middle School after police noticed her driving erratically, according to a report.
Wheatley, who had her 7-year-old daughter in the car, told police she was coming home from a graduation party and that she had three drinks containing alcohol there.
Police asked her to get out of her vehicle so they could perform a sobriety test, but she had trouble standing, the report says.
Police also found a small amount of marijuana in Wheatley’s purse, for which she was cited with a minor misdemeanor.
Police made several unsuccessful attempts to call a relative to take custody of the 7-year-old girl. The girl and Wheatley were taken to the police department, and Wheatley was given a chemical test, police said. Her blood alcohol content was 0.165, twice the legal limit of 0.08.
Wheatley’s friend came to the police department to pick up Wheatley and her daughter.
