Suspect able to escape into woods

CAMPBELL

Police say a man who is a suspect in a child molestation case was able to run from officers into a wooded area and avoid capture this afternoon.

Police were called to Gladstone Avenue near U.S. Route 422 a little after 2 p.m. by a woman who said her daughter was molested by a man. The man ran into a wooded area when police arrived and he managed to elude a two-hour search, which included officers from Coitsville and Struthers. There were reports the man had a gun, but police were not sure if had one or not.

Just after the search was called off about 4:10 p.m., police found a sawed-off .12-gauge shotgun in a wooded area behind some vacant houses on Courtland Avenue, a short distance away from Gladstone.

Police are still searching for the man.
