U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan joins an all-star lineup of media celebrities Thursday at The Huffington Post’s first “women’s conference” to discuss various topics including business and wellnesss.

Its focus will be on what the Internet newspaper’s website calls “saner, more sustainable paths to achievement.”

Ryan of Niles, D-13th, said he was invited to the New York City conference because of his book, “A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance, and Recapture the American Spirit.”

Mindfulness is a meditative practice focusing on the present instead of worrying about the past or future.

Ryan will be on a panel, called “Do Men Get It?” at the end of the conference along with Joe Scarborough, an MSNBC morning news show; Leslie Stahl of “60 Minutes;” actor Adrian Grenier, best known for his lead role in HBO’s “Entourage;” and Bill George, a Harvard Business School professor and author.

The event, called “The Third Metric: Redefining Success Beyond Money & Power,” is sponsored by Arianna Huffington, editor in chief of The Huffington Post, and Mika Brzezinski, Scarborough’s co-host of “Morning Joe.”

Ryan said he doesn’t know what to expect.

“It will be interesting to see how the day goes and see how I fit in with the conversation,” he said. “We’ll talk about balancing work and family, and how to increase the quality of life. Women feel they have to do it all and in many case, they do, particularly single moms.”

Others speaking at the event include TV talk-show host Katie Couric, George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, actress Candice Bergen, and Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to the president.

“I’m really excited to be there with major media folks to help shape and shift the culture,” Ryan said. “It’s really cool.”

Ryan has represented much of the Mahoning Valley in Congress since 2003.

"Mindfulness is a meditative practice focusing on the present instead of worrying about the past or future."

More psychobabble! One should not worry about the past but learn from it. But, not worry about the future? Are you kidding me? This is how people screw their lives up by not preapring for the future, i.e. savings, life insurance, retirement, healthy lifestyles. But, major kudos to Rep. Ryan for working so hard on the people's business by tackling thesse tough issues.
