2 vacant houses burn in Youngstown

Published: Sun, June 2, 2013 @ 6:40 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters battled two vacant house fires on the same North Side street about 6 p.m. Saturday.

Battalion Chief Gary DiTullio said crews were called to 369 Grant St. and found heavy smoke coming from the second floor when they got there. DiTullio said a quick search was done on the first floor but firefighters were pulled out because of the heavy fire. The home was allowed to burn down and is a total loss, DiTullio said.

As crews were cleaning up that scene, another fire was discovered in the back and second floor of a home at 360 Grant St., DiTullio said. Firefighters managed to save that home. Loss is listed at $6,000, DiTullio said.

The cause of both fires is under investigation. No one was injured.

Why save it? Let it burn, that way the lead base paint is gone, the asbestos is likely blown away. Much cheaper to get rid of this eyesore no lead base paint, little or no asbestos, one less place for the hoodrats to congregate, come on people do the math on this one, Should be a new city ordinance. "let it burn".

@ georgejeanie:

Yes, I totally agree with you.

Maybe the firefighters can show up only to make it look good, but once there they all can take a union break.
