COLUMBUS (AP) — Former Democratic Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has endorsed his party’s challenger trying to face off against incumbent GOP Gov. John Kasich next year.
Strickland calls fellow Democrat Ed FitzGerald a family man with a wonderful background as a public servant.
Strickland said today that FitzGerald, a former FBI agent who prosecuted corruption, has helped restore integrity to Cuyahoga County where he is county executive.
Strickland acknowledged his own poor performance among Cuyahoga County voters in 2010 and says FitzGerald is positioned to get those votes back in the 2014 race.
Republicans quickly criticized the endorsement, reminding voters of massive job losses under Strickland, who governed at the height of the Great Recession.
