The township trustees opened three bid offers for a project to install streetlights on Raccoon Road near Austintown Middle School.
The township estimate for installation of the 27 streetlights on the road was $190,686, of which the township would pay 20 percent. A state Transportation Enhancement Grant would cover the remainder of the cost.
Main Lite Electric Co. Inc. of Warren bid $191,671 for the job; the Perram Electric Inc. of Wadsworth bid $185,507; and B&J Electric Inc. of Poland submitted a $254,251 bid.
The trustees will review the bids and could have a recommendation to award a contract at their next meeting. Trustee Lisa Oles said at Monday’s meeting this project has been in the works since 2010.
Trustees also approved a contract with Butch & McCree Paving Inc. of Hillsville, Pa., to resurface 5.7 miles of road for $9,700 per day as part of a joint-paving program with Canfield and Boardman townships. Trustees have not decided what road or roads will be paved at this time.
Also at the meeting, police Chief Robert Gavalier announced the department received a $27,000 state grant for a Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer. The money will go toward paying the DARE officer, who will be assigned to the school district.
The auction of township property will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. Items from both the fire and police departments, including four police cars, will be open for bids, in addition to several miscellaneous items. People interested in bidding on the items can inspect them beginning at 9 a.m. at the township offices on Ohltown Road.
