Man shot tonight, runs to Youngstown Police Department, collapses inside

Published: Sat, July 20, 2013 @ 9:26 p.m.

A 39-year-old man ran into the Youngstown Police Department at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, then collapsed on the floor in front of the security guard working at the door, saying he’d been shot.

Paramedics and police officers arrived shortly afterward, learning from the man that a silver Mitsubishi was involved in the shooting.

The man had a gunshot wound to his upper back and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The man said he ran to the police department from the Market Street Bridge, but it wasn’t apparent whether the shooting took place there or not.

Is the rally on the courthouse steps scheduled yet? I'm sure this guy was just walking his dog when for no apparent reason, someone shot him. I need to go find my poster board and sharpies.

Please, PLEASE, explain to me how you expect to get the guns out of the hands of criminals??!! You keep stating that we need to get the guns off the streets. Do you honestly think that will happen? Taking guns away from law-abiding citizens is hard enough, but do you really think that the thugs and criminals on the streets won't get their hands on them if they want them? Please use some common sense and get out of La-La Land.

I have a better plan... Why doesn't excel jump in the station wagon today and go do a roundup of all guns. Then, when he gives the "all clear" we can have a celebration on the court house steps.

I predict that concealed carry nationwide will be history. I hear that ammo is very scarce with no legislation. With legislation we can clean the streets and stop gun sales to civillians. Zimmerman had his gun taken away and there is no return of it on the horizon. He is doing quite well without it. LET'S GET ALL OF THE GUNS OFF THE STREETS!

Again, excel, I ask you -- how do you propose to make this work?? Please tell me how taking away legal weapons will stop criminals from getting their hands on them. It is completely impossible to get weapons out of the hands of criminals. There are laws NOW that they won't follow. So do you really think that by making guns illegal, they'll follow THAT law?? Really?

Predict whatever you like -- it's doesn't matter. Those people will get weapons no matter what the law allows.

Better watch criticizing excel or Obama will put you on his must do list. I see the disarming of America as inevitable. Zimmerman helped Obama with his agenda. Today it is all but impossible to find 22 ammo to hunt woodchucks.

Heroin destroys countless lives and family, breeds violence and helps support americas underbelly lets make that illegal.... Oh, wait it is, making a gun illegal or not will not stop the ones who don't care about laws or society to obtain a firearm or anything else thats illegal for that matter, there are laws about driving drunk but yet the OVI rate is astonishing. And no the police didn't tell him (zimmerman) to stop following Trayvon, it was a dispatcher when was the last time you saw someone arrested for failure to comply with a dispatcher who does not go through an academy that teaches civil rights and state/federal laws. It was a personal choice he made, that has impacted his life forever, a young man is dead two families ruined and all people can think about is taking away the second amendment like the brittish, and that its a black and white thing, the evidence as produced by the State precluded that Trayvon was assaulting him in an "MMA style ground and pound" Be it as it is, if some person who you didn't know began to attack you slamming your head into the ground you would have done the same thing, Again as soon as people can go past the he's black he's white thing (actually hispanic) society can move on to be far less racist. Quit teaching your children that beating their wives and selling dope is ok and start producing positive people that want to contribute to society and not live off of public "entitlement" assistance. GET A DAMN JOB.

If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

Also, there is a shortage of ammunition because the govt put an order in for over 1.6 billion rounds from every caliber (presumably to increase their reserves, but also create an artificial shortage in the civilian market). This is a staggering number. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan uses about 5.5 million rounds per month meaning this stockpile of ammunition is enough to cover a 24-year war. But this stockpile isn't for overseas combat; it's for the Department of Homeland Security. Why would our govt be arming itself to this extent?

Food for thought:

Eliminating law-abiding citizens' rights to own guns will cause more problems than solutions. If the govt owns all the guns and ammo, kiss your freedom and liberties goodbye.

"I hope it wasn't a Hispanic with a white-sounding name who shot him - the racists will get all worked up all over again."

First thought, last thought and pretty much all that I'll think about for the rest of my life on this matter.

Forget about taking guns off the streets it isn't happening, the best we can hope for is protection for the law abiding citizens by being armed themselves so that when these thugs think about breaking into a house or committing another type of crime, they think twice before doing it.
