Man shot tonight, runs to Youngstown Police Department, collapses inside

Published: Sat, July 20, 2013 @ 9:26 p.m.

A 39-year-old man ran into the Youngstown Police Department at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, then collapsed on the floor in front of the security guard working at the door, saying he’d been shot.

Paramedics and police officers arrived shortly afterward, learning from the man that a silver Mitsubishi was involved in the shooting.

The man had a gunshot wound to his upper back and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The man said he ran to the police department from the Market Street Bridge, but it wasn’t apparent whether the shooting took place there or not.

Is the rally on the courthouse steps scheduled yet? I'm sure this guy was just walking his dog when for no apparent reason, someone shot him. I need to go find my poster board and sharpies.

I hope it wasn't a Hispanic with a white-sounding name who shot him - the racists will get all worked up all over again.

Please, PLEASE, explain to me how you expect to get the guns out of the hands of criminals??!! You keep stating that we need to get the guns off the streets. Do you honestly think that will happen? Taking guns away from law-abiding citizens is hard enough, but do you really think that the thugs and criminals on the streets won't get their hands on them if they want them? Please use some common sense and get out of La-La Land.

I have a better plan... Why doesn't excel jump in the station wagon today and go do a roundup of all guns. Then, when he gives the "all clear" we can have a celebration on the court house steps.

I predict that concealed carry nationwide will be history. I hear that ammo is very scarce with no legislation. With legislation we can clean the streets and stop gun sales to civillians. Zimmerman had his gun taken away and there is no return of it on the horizon. He is doing quite well without it. LET'S GET ALL OF THE GUNS OFF THE STREETS!

Again, excel, I ask you -- how do you propose to make this work?? Please tell me how taking away legal weapons will stop criminals from getting their hands on them. It is completely impossible to get weapons out of the hands of criminals. There are laws NOW that they won't follow. So do you really think that by making guns illegal, they'll follow THAT law?? Really?

Predict whatever you like -- it's doesn't matter. Those people will get weapons no matter what the law allows.

Better watch criticizing excel or Obama will put you on his must do list. I see the disarming of America as inevitable. Zimmerman helped Obama with his agenda. Today it is all but impossible to find 22 ammo to hunt woodchucks.

excel cluelessly bleated: "Zimmerman had his gun taken away and there is no return of it on the horizon."

That's because USAG Holder is playing politics. There is no legal reason to hold that gun, and Zimmerman was going to get it back until Holder stepped in and personally put a hold on it. But - now pay attention, boy - there's nothing keeping Zimmerman from getting another, or many more, guns. Holder (and Obama) can't stop that. They know better than to try.

If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

Also, there is a shortage of ammunition because the govt put an order in for over 1.6 billion rounds from every caliber (presumably to increase their reserves, but also create an artificial shortage in the civilian market). This is a staggering number. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan uses about 5.5 million rounds per month meaning this stockpile of ammunition is enough to cover a 24-year war. But this stockpile isn't for overseas combat; it's for the Department of Homeland Security. Why would our govt be arming itself to this extent?

Food for thought:

Eliminating law-abiding citizens' rights to own guns will cause more problems than solutions. If the govt owns all the guns and ammo, kiss your freedom and liberties goodbye.

Forget about taking guns off the streets it isn't happening, the best we can hope for is protection for the law abiding citizens by being armed themselves so that when these thugs think about breaking into a house or committing another type of crime, they think twice before doing it.

Quite a lively discussion! Someone referred to Excell as "he". I don't believe it, I believe she's a "she". In my experience the most fanatical gun control advocates (generally Liberal Democrats) are normally people of the feminine persuasion.

The Conservative Commentator, Ann Coulter recently said (no doubt "tongue in cheek") that "maybe women getting the vote wasn't such a good idea because without women voters, Democrats would never get elected!"

Food for thought! But, then again, it's too late- we "spilled the beans"- and we have to live with the consequences...

I'm a 2nd Amendment Supporter but, playing "devils advocate" for a minute- if I wanted to stop the use of guns by private individuals, I would do it by converting them into harmless paperweights.

In other words, stop or control the supply of ammunition. Eventually, the ammunition runs out and then what...

I have a friend who is a "survivalist"- he has 6,000 rounds stockpiled in case we got hit by an asteroid- or something like that- and he said to me- "Eventually, I would run out of ammo and my guns would be useless- so I have to get a bow and practice my archery skills- I can always make my own arrows..."

In other words, take the guns out of criminal hands (by stopping the supply of ammunition) and they'd be using Crossbows- making their own arrows.

zz3's comment- Everything in the black community going wrong connects with the Illegitimacy Rate- 70 per cent and rising- boys raised by just women-in many cases- become just hoodlums and killers, it's that simple.

And whites aren't far behind- our rate of husband less babies is 30 per cent and going up.

In the fifties the Illegitimacy rate for both groups- white and black- was tiny- 2 to 3 per cent. By 1970 it shot up- for both groups- 10 fold. What happened? Hugh Marsden Heffner, for one. Playboy Magazine. The Sexual Revolution- if it feels good- do it- great for men- not so great for single women who get pregnant. Then the "liberated" sixties- "free love" and all that- again, a free ride for the guys who can walk away- not so "free" for the single women who get pregnant. Then, the Feminist Movement (remember "Murphy Brown") instructed women- "forget men"- if you want to have a baby without a husband- just do it... An affordable plan for wealthy women, a disaster for the poor.

Is it any wonder that the country is falling apart- whenever traditional moral standards get thrown overboard- the poorest people- Black People in our country- suffer first- then the rest of us... Whites shouldn't be smug or complacent-our turn is coming (it may already have arrived)...

Guns are not the problem, unstable people are the problem...guns are here to stay in the world, deal with it!

As I said in my post, when "moral rot" sets in (the so-called "sexual revolution"; the "if it feels good- do it "ethic" (sic) of the sixties and feminism)- the most vulnerable groups- minority groups especially are effected first- but then it spreads: the Black Illegitimate Birth Rate is 70 per cent and rising; the White Illegitimate Birth Rate is 30 per cent- and rising. So we're not far behind.

In the 1950's the Illegitimacy rate for both groups was under 5 per cent- it shot up ten fold for both groups by 1970 ( ironically during the Civil Rights Revolution which killed Jim Crow but subjected African-americans to a danger just as great if not greater- the destruction of the family by promiscuous sex).

Without stable families- a married couple and children- society can't survive- so the Illegitimate Birth Rate is really an index of the destruction of our society.

Taking guns from law abiding citizens is not the answer. The criminals will still have guns & still be shooting up our town.
The answer my friend is to stop feeling sorry for the criminal & enforce the law.. First degree murder calls for the death penalty.
When criminals know that it can cost them their own lives, they will think twice about it.
The bible states "when a man takes a man's life, by man shall his life be taken!
