Jim Frank Combo performed July 11 at the Maag Outdoor Arts Theatre for a large crowd. The performance was part of the Boardman Park summer concert series.
The group is made up of Jim Frank of Boardman on the vocals, Bill Gonda of Austintown on the drums, Paul Jacobson on the guitar and Joe Commarata on the trumpet. All members in the band have one thing in common: they’re all retired school teachers.
Jim Frank Combo has been playing together for 45 years. They play a variety of music ranging from polka to Frank Sinatra to Tony Bennett. The group also takes requests from the audience.
Denny Ericson of Boardman has seen the Jim Frank Combo play more than a dozen times. He requested that the band played “Oh What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.
Ericson is a big fan of the group.
“I like [Jim’s] style of singing and I like that they play a variety,” said Ericson.
“We hope people will enjoy our music enough to dance,” said Frank. “We want people to enjoy it and come back again.”
The next Jim Frank Combo performances will be July 26 at Our Lady of Mount Caramel Italian Festival at 6:30 p.m. in Youngstown and July 30 at Shepherd of the Valley - Boardman, located at 7148 West Blvd. at 7 p.m.
