Youngstown police investigating boy hit by car on East Side

Published: Tue, July 16, 2013 @ 5:10 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to figure out how a 4-year-old boy was hit by a car in the 1200 block of East High Avenue about 3:45 p.m. today.

A woman at the scene said it appeared someone was backing out of a drive and hit the boy, who was then taken by his family to ValleyCare Northside Medical Center. They notified police, who went to investigate.

Police detained a man they said may have been the driver on a traffic warrant from Campbell police and were holding the car until accident investigators could look at it.

The boy’s name was not readily available, and he is being transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital, police said.
