Scrappers’ skid reaches seven straight

STATE COLLEGE, PA.

Ronald Castillo doubled, tripled and homered for State College, driving in three runs and scoring two more to lead the Spikes to a 12-5 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a New York-Penn League game on Tuesday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Juan Herrera doubled, tripled and scored twice for the Scrappers (7-15), who have lost seven straight games.

Nellie Rodriguez added two hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in a run for Mahoning Valley, which trailed just 6-5 until State College added six runs in the seventh inning.

Robel Garcia singled, doubled, walked twice and drove in two runs. The Scrappers stranded 11 runners and batted just 3 of 19 with runners in scoring position.

Robert Whitenack (1-3) gave up six runs in 42/3 innings to get the loss for Mahoning Valley.
