Police arrested three Mercer County men Sunday afternoon on two separate calls and discovered small amounts of heroin both times.

Brian McClearn, 22, of Pierce Avenue in Sharpsville, Pa., was arrested in the parking lot of Family Dollar on Market Street after police responded to a report of a man passed out in a van for more than an hour about 5:55 p.m.

When officers arrived, McClearn was out of the van, and he dropped something through the window, reports said.

An officer checked inside and found a small bag of heroin, reports said. McClearn then told police he was addicted to opiates and explained that he bought some heroin for $65 and stopped at Family Dollar to get something to drink.

McClearn told police he had a hard time staying awake and poured water on his face to fight off sleep, reports said. Reports said McClearn told police he was planning to share the heroin with friends in Pennsylvania.

McClearn also declined medical treatment twice because he said he did not want to lose custody of his son. Police also found a syringe and a burnt spoon inside his van.

He was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of drugs heroin and possession of drug-abuse instruments.

Earlier, about 2:25 p.m., Joseph William Waldo, 18, of York Street in Greenville, Pa., was arrested on the East Side on charges of possession of drugs- heroin and possession of drug-abuse instruments.

Reports said Waldo was a passenger in a car driven by Floyd Deacon Sequoyah Jones, 29, of North First Street in Jamestown, Pa. Police pulled the car over at a gas station at Oak Street and Early Road for making an improper turn earlier.

When police walked up to the car, they found a strip of pills near the driver’s seat and ordered the two out of the car as Waldo reached into the console, reports state.

Inside the console, officers found a bag of heroin. Inside Waldo’s shoes were a spoon and needle, reports said.

Waldo was taken to the jail. Jones was cited for possession of drugs and released at the scene.
