A 2-year-old boy died after being backed into by a vehicle at 20 Euclid Ave. around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Struthers Police Chief Tim Roddy said the boy’s death appeared to be a “tragic accident” and that the driver did not know the little boy was behind the vehicle when backing it out of the driveway.
The driver is a 35-year-old male that is believed to be a friend of the family’s. Roddy said he thinks the child was being baby-sat at the residence, but police still are looking into why the child was there. Police did not have the boy’s name. The boy died on the way to the hospital by ambulance, according to Roddy.
Roddy said he did not know if charges would be pressed because the incident is under investigation, but there were no signs of speed, or alcohol or drug use by the driver.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted Struthers police in the incident.
