Diocese offers summer institute Aug. 6-8
The Diocese of Youngs-town Office of Religious Education announces the Summer Catechetical Institute planned from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6-8.
The institute features prayers, keynote presentations, courses and workshops each day at two locations — St. Michael Family Life Center in Canfield and St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Canton.
The institute is a local and cost-effective opportunity for faith formation and skill building for parish catechists, Catholic school teachers, parish catechetical leaders, Catholic school principals, and pastoral ministers.
On Aug. 6 at St. Michael, Saundra Kennedy, national consultant with Sadlier Religion; Cackie Upchurch, director of Little Rock Scripture Study, will present “Heralds of the Good News: Becoming the Best You Can Be.”
On Aug. 7, Cackie Upchurch, director of Little Rock Scripure Study, presents “Grounding Ourselves in the Great Narrative of Faith.”
On Aug. 8, the Rev. Bob Bonnot, pastor of Christ Our Savior Parish in Struthers, presents “Cruising the 50-Year Currents of Vatican II.”
Registration including lunch is $50 for all three days, $40 for two days, and $20 for one day. Workbook fee for elementary catechesis is an additional $14.
The institute is partially funded by a grant from the Catholic Extension Society.
Catholic school teachers employed by the diocese may be eligible to earn professional development credit for State of Ohio certification.
