After just three years in business, the Linens & More store in Niles is throwing in the towel — and pretty much everything else.
It’s unknown when Linens & More will formally close, but the business is having a sale to liquidate inventory.
Joe Bell, spokesman for Cafaro Co., which leases the building to Linens & More, said store officials have not said when it would close, only that the company was going out of business.
Linens & More is owned by a group of investors including J.J. Cafaro, a former vice president of Cafaro Co.
When the store opened in the shadow of the closing of the once- popular Linens N Things chain, Linens & More officials said the new chain was going to expand rapidly, with stores opening in Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Erie, Pa.; Paducah, Ky.; Dayton, Ohio; and Huntington, W.Va.
The chain expected it would grow to more than 50 locations over the next several years and had nine stores slated to open in 2011. According to the company’s website, the Niles store is the only location.
It appears several other stores were open at one time but have since closed.
Despite the closing, the Eastwood complex is hoping not to have a vacancy long. Cafaro Co. leasing agents also are working with other retail businesses about leasing the spot, Bell said.
“I can’t give any further information at this time about what kind of retail companies are interested in the space,” he said.
Attempts to contact a representative at the Linens & More corporate offices in Brookfield by phone and email were unsuccessful.
