Abundant Life Fellowship sets Aug. 3 for giveaway event
Abundant Life Fellowship will sponsor August Overflow, a community event providing school supplies, haircuts, food and clothing to area residents.
The Aug. 3 event will be on church grounds, 46469 state Route 46. Most events begin at noon. Last year more than 700 people attended.
For the second consecutive year, Home Savings branches in Columbiana, East Palestine, Lisbon and Salem are assisting Abundant Life with collecting school supplies for an upcoming outreach project. Displays recently set up at the branches encourage customers and community residents to donate school supplies through July 27.
Home Savings displays include boxes for residents to bring in a variety of school supplies. Handouts detailing what supplies are needed are available for bank patrons, along with other promotional materials for the event.
The school supplies distribution specifically targets students in Crestview, Columbiana, East Palestine, Beaver Local, Leetonia and Lisbon school districts along with Heartland Christian School. Residents participating in the school supplies distribution must bring a child’s report card and a driver’s license to show proof of residency. The supplies are for students in kindergarten through 12th grades. Students from other school districts will not be turned away, but may be served during the last hour if supplies last.
The distribution is conducted in cooperation with The Way Station of Columbiana, which has provided assistance with registration since the event began. It also assists with collecting clothes for distribution.
Last year, nearly 300 students in those districts received school supplies.
Also returning this year will be an American Red Cross blood drive and distribution of free produce by Second Harvest Food Bank.
A variety of children’s games and food will be available. The car show, open to all makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles, will run from 3 to 5 p.m. with People’s Choice trophies awarded in all categories. There is no entry fee and magnetic dash plaques will be given to all participants.
Haircuts will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis with sign-ins required that day. Last year, more than 60 young people received haircuts.
The event will end with a brief worship service.
Corporate sponsors are needed to help defray some of the costs of the event. Those interested and able can send a check to the church with the event listed in the memo. All financial contributions are tax deductible. Sponsors receive publicity on promotional materials set up throughout the event, on a brochure and on the home page of the church website, www.abundantlifefellowship.us.
