Youngstown State University alumni will gather next weekend during YSU’s Summer Festival of the Arts for a reunion.
It’s the first time since 2008’s centennial that the university has hosted an all-alumni reunion, said Mollie Hartup, assistant director of alumni relations.
Heather Belgin, events coordinator, said the office sponsors many alumni events for particular geographical areas, but the gatherings July 12 and 13 offer a chance for alumni from all classes and from all over the country to get together.
“We thought the Festival of the Arts would be a nice time to do it,” she said. “It’s a really vibrant time to be on campus.”
The 15th annual Summer Festival of the Arts will be July 13 and 14 on and around campus. Music, artwork and cultural activities are planned as part of the event.
Activities for alumni begin the day before with an alumni-networking reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 12 at Oh Wow! The Roger and Gloria Jones Center for Science and Technology. The reception is for adults only with a cash bar available. The cost is $8 for alumni society members and $10 for nonmembers.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 13, former students may visit the alumni tent at the festival.
An alumni reception is scheduled for 5 to 6 p.m. July 13 in Kilcawley Center’s Ohio Room followed by an alumni dinner at 6 p.m. in the Chestnut Room.
The cost for the reception and dinner is $15.

The alumni events will enable visitors to see not only what’s happening on campus but also experience some of the changes that have occurred downtown.
“The downtown has experienced such a regrowth since we had the event five years ago,” Belgin said. “A lot of our alumni don’t get a chance to return to campus and we wanted to showcase all of the exciting things that are going on downtown.”
