ValleyCare Health System of Ohio is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a planned $20 million expansion at Northside Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, on the city’s North Side.
The ceremony is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. near the emergency-room lawn.
The undertaking will add a new emergency room and 21 private exam and trauma rooms.
Northside also will have additional surgical services including 21 new same-day surgery patient bays, endoscopy suites, a bronchoscopy room and a new waiting area. Nearly 30,000 patients sought emergency care at Northside in 2012.
Within the new construction tower, there will be a main lobby with registration, pre-admission testing, a waiting area, gift shop and information center.
Northside’s expansion is part of a five-year, $80 million capital commitment made by Tennessee-based Community Health System when the company purchased the former Forum Health facilities out of bankruptcy in October 2010.
Since 2010, ValleyCare has invested about $50 million to improve hospital facilities, such as the ongoing transition to private patient rooms, update technology, add new medical equipment and recruit physicians.
