SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.

A portion of U.S. Route 422 near Mount Hope Furnace Road was closed after a truck carrying stone spilled its load about 9:05 a.m. Tuesday.

The truck, driven by 81-year-old Michael J. Barbish Jr. of Harmony was driving north on Mount Hope Furnace Road when it went off the road, hit and embankment and rolled onto its side and slid 40 feet before coming to a stop, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report.

Barbish was flown by a helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital to be treated. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the state police.
