Linda Srnec, former longtime village clerk-treasurer, was appointed the newest council member during a meeting Tuesday night.
Srnec will assume the seat vacated by David Raspanti, who resigned to become village zoning inspector.
Council voted 3-1 in favor of Srnec, over Deputy Clerk Jeff Vrabel Sr. after about 25 minutes of discussion in executive session.
“They’re still my boss. They picked who they wanted to pick,” Vrabel said after the meeting. “I’ll still be the deputy clerk tomorrow morning when I wake up.”
Mayor Timothy Sicafuse said either candidate was fit for the seat, but in the end, Srnec’s experience with the council is why she was selected.
“The reason why it took so long is because they’re both good candidates,” Sicafuse said.
“We couldn’t go wrong either way.”
Srnec was not available at Tuesday’s meeting for comment.
She did tell council at the June 19 meeting that she deserves to be appointed.
“My background speaks for itself,” she said then. “I’ve really learned a lot at this table.”
Srnec announced her resignation from her post as village clerk-treasurer last August, without citing a reason except to say her feelings about the office had changed. Her last day was Dec. 1.
She served as deputy clerk for 21 years.
