Man who drove final Williams trip dies

MONTGOMERY, Ala.

The man who was driving country-music legend Hank Williams on his final journey Jan. 1, 1953, Charles Carr, has died. Carr was 77.

The director of the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, Beth Petty, said Carr died Monday after a brief illness.

Carr was a friend of the Williams family when Williams asked him to drive him from Montgomery to a New Year’s Day concert in Canton, Ohio. Williams died while he and Carr were on their way to Canton.

Petty described Carr as a friend of the Hank Williams museum and as a man who “was always kind to fans of Hank.”

Petty said Carr never tried to profit from the fact that he was driving the country-music singer on that last trip.

Pierce Brosnan’s daughter dies at 41

NEW YORK

Pierce Brosnan’s daughter has died from ovarian cancer, his publicist confirms.

Charlotte was 41 years old when she passed away in London on Friday after battling the disease for three years.

Brosnan’s first wife, Cassandra Harris, Charlotte’s mother, also died from ovarian cancer in 1991. Harris’ mother died from the disease as well.

People.com was first to report the story. In a statement to People, Brosnan said his daughter “fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity.”

He went on to say “we pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon.”

Cassandra is survived by a husband, Alex Smith, 14-year-old daughter, Isabella, and 8-year old son, Lucas.

Fox News moving Kelly to prime time

LOS ANGELES

Megyn Kelly is moving to prime time.

The longtime anchor of the popular Fox News daytime show “America Live” will get an evening show when she returns from maternity leave, the network said.

What Fox News didn’t say is what Kelly’s show will be and where it will air.

Fox News has long-term deals in place with its other prime-time stars, including Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity.

There has been speculation that Kelly may take the 10 p.m. slot on Fox News that currently is occupied by Greta Van Susteren.

However, on Tuesday, Van Susteren said on her blog that she has a long-term contract “and it is for a show in ‘prime time.’”

Ousted Groupon CEO works on an album

NEW YORK

Groupon’s quirky former CEO, Andrew Mason, has been working hard on a new album, “Hardly Workin,”’ since he was ousted from the troubled online deals company in February.

The seven-song album drops business knowledge on listeners with tracks such as “The Way to Work,” “My Door is Always Open” and the hip-hop influenced “Stretch.” The latter begins “we all know that you gotta have goals every quarter.”

Groupon’s failure to meet such goals was part of the reason Mason was fired.

Mason calls the album “motivational business music.” It’s available for $9.99 on iTunes, and it’s streamed on Spotify.

Pharrell sues will.i.am over the phrase ‘i am’

LOS ANGELES

Musician and producer Pharrell Williams is asking a New York court to rule that he has not infringed on any trademarks for the phrase “I am.”

According to a complaint filed Monday in New York, Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am has sent Williams cease-and-desist letters to stop him from using the phrase for his “i am OTHER” website and YouTube channel.

Lawyers for will.i.am said in the original letter, sent last year, that “the use of the term “I AM” is likely to cause visitors to the website to believe” that will.i.am is affiliated with the site.
