Audience members heard cries in fatal Las Vegas fall

LAS VEGAS

Audience members in Las Vegas say they realized a Cirque du Soleil acrobat’s fall was an accident when they heard the cries of the performer and other cast members.

Visitor Dan Mosqueda of Colorado Springs, Colo., told the Las Vegas Sun the woman was being hoisted up the side of the stage by a wire when she plummeted into an open pit below the performers.

Authorities say 31-year-old Sarah Guillot-Guyard was pronounced dead Saturday night at a hospital after falling about 50 feet during a production of “Ka” at the MGM Grand.

The accident happened during a fight scene at the show, which features pyrotechnics, martial arts and puppetry as well as acrobatics.

‘Idol’s’ Studdard joins ‘Loser’ cast

LOS ANGELES

“American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard is joining the cast of “The Biggest Loser,” becoming the first celebrity to compete on NBC’s weight-loss reality show.

The balladeer nicknamed “The Velvet Teddy Bear” was crowned the winner of “American Idol” Season 2 in 2003, edging out Clay Aiken in one of the tightest votes in that show’s history.

Studdard used the win as a platform to launch a singing-and-performing career and also earned a Grammy nomination.

The super-sized Studdard will become the first celebrity to compete on “The Biggest Loser” in the fall when Season 15 is slated to air.

Minogue releases book of fashion

NEW YORK

Before Lady Gaga, Rihanna or Katy Perry married music with fashion, there was Kylie Minogue.

The singer compiled a look at her fashion choices, particularly her stage costumes, in a new book called “Kylie Fashion” (Running Press).

“It was lots of fun to look at my life in fashion through the years,” said Minogue in a recent interview. “There’ve been ups and downs and fabulous moments and not-so-fabulous moments, but basically the book was a celebration of 25 years.”

Yes, the 45-year-old even admits some fashion faux pas.

“I had to include some moments that were less than stellar because we all make mistakes along the way. Some ideas that we thought were fantastic at that point in time were upon reflection, a big mistake,” she said. “That’s all part of my journey, and actually, it’s what I like about fashion.”
