Williamsport rallies past Scrappers in 9th

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.
Scrappers reliever Manuel Carmona blew his second save of the season, giving up three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to fall to the Williamsport Crosscutters 4-3 in a New York-Penn League game Sunday at Bowman Field.
Carmona (1-2) walked two batters, threw two wild pitches and gave up two singles in the ninth. The second single, by Gustavo Martinez, scored Gabriel Lino and Logan Pierce with the game-tying runs. Jairo Cardozo then followed with the winning run on a fielding error by Scrappers right fielder Juan Romero.
Romero had two hits, including a second-inning homer, and Nellie Rodriguez had two hits and drove in a run for the Scrappers (6-8).
Matt Whitehouse started and pitched three shutout innings, and Kerry Doane gave up one run in three innings of relief.
Kyle Crockett and Breily Puerta each added a scoreless inning of relief.
Martinez and Dylan Cozens each had two hits for Williamsport (7-5).
The Scrappers begin a three-game series in Jamestown tonight, then return home Thursday against Williamsport.
