Victim support group says Brother Baker also worked in Michigan

A support group for victims of clergy sex abuse will have a news conference at 1 p.m. today in Detroit to call attention to what it says it has learned about another of the places where Brother Stephen Baker worked as a Franciscan friar.

The Survivors Network of Those Abused By Priests issued a statement saying Baker was assigned three years to a Catholic prep school in Orchard Park, Mich., from 1983 to 1985.

SNAP says it will hold signs and childhood photos outside of the Detroit Archdiocese headquarters in Detroit to discuss what has been learned about Baker, who committed suicide Saturday in Hollidaysburg, Pa., after being accused of committing sexual assaults against students at Warren John F. Kennedy High school between 1986 and 1991 and at Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, Pa. from 1992 to 2000.

SNAP will ask Detroit area people to report anything they know about any offenses Baker may have committed in the Detroit area to authorities, the press release says.

A call to the school in Orchard Park was not returned, nor were calls to a school in Norfolk, Va., where the website www.bishopaccountability.org says Baker worked in the 1970s.

Why doesn't the Catholic Church just release the entire "work" history of this child rapist? Why does it have to be a victim advocacy group that digs up this important information? Isn't the church supposed to be interested in the truth? Isn't there something in the Bible about "you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free"? What more is there that is being hidden by ongoing cover-ups?

Hiding the facts is the history of the Catholic Church.

Why was Bishop Murry silent about Baker's location in Michigan? Child predators need to be kept far away from kids forever...
BUT, an even more powerful danger is when high ranking officials enable, empower, and cover up these sex crimes against kids. They need to be held responsible for allowing more innocent kids to be sexually abused, otherwise nothing changes.

Child sex abuse thrives in secrecy and secret systems that allow it to continue to this day, so hopefully anyone who has knowledge or may have been harmed by Brother Stephen Baker, will have the courage to come forward and contact the "police", not the church officials. They are not the proper officials to be investigating child sex crimes..
Also keep in mind your silence only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others.
