Cardinal Mooney's Braylon Heard decided to transfer after Nebraska asked him to make a position change from running back to wide receiver, according to one of his high school coaches.
Heard was recruited to Nebraska as a running back, then briefly switched to cornerback before being switched back to running back before the 2012 season. He appeared in all 12 games last fall, rushing 52 times for 348 yards and three TDs.
After the season, Nebraska's coaches informed him they wanted him to switch to wide receiver.
"He just wants a shot to play running back," said Mooney assistant Chris Amill, who has been close with Heard for years.
Heard will stay enrolled at Nebraska through the spring semester. Amill said Pitt is on Heard's list of possibilities, due to its proximity to Youngstown and because his former classmate, Ray Vinopal, is a safety for the Panthers.
