UPDATED | Fire crews continue to battle fire on Lockwood Blvd. in Boardman

Published: Mon, January 28, 2013 @ 11:28 a.m.

BOARDMAN — Fire crews from Boardman, Austintown and Canfield continue to battle a fire at an apartment building at 6849 Lockwood Blvd. that broke out about 8:30 a.m.

"We rescued one victim. The victim's condition is unknown. Everyone has been evacuated," said Boardman Assistant Fire Chief Tim Drummond.

Witnesses at the scene said the victim was a woman.

Drummond said when firefighters arrived, flames were sprouting from the roof. The fire spread from 6849 Lockwood Blvd. to the apartment to the left, 6847 Lockwood Blvd. but fire crews had contained it from taking over most of that neighboring building.

"There is a fire wall there," Drummond said, which is where firefighters gathered to stop the fire's movement.

Hoses looped throughout the apartment complex's parking lot and Drummond described the water pressure as "adequate."
