BOARDMAN — The board of education took the first step to renew one levy and replace another.
The board agreed Monday to ask voters to renew in May a 5.9-mill, five-year tax levy for current operating expenses. This levy was first passed in 2003. The levy generates $4,643,763 annually, said Richard Santilli, treasurer.
Board members will also seek to replace a 1.6-mill, five-year levy. The levy currently raises $821,219 annually.
The board chose to ask for a replacement rather than a renewal to raise additional funds to be used to improve school safety and security, said John Landers, board president.
