Woman dies in Howland fire
An elderly woman died in a house fire Friday evening on Deforest Road.
According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at about 6:30 p.m.
Howland Township Fire Chief James Pantalone said the woman, who was in her 70s, was found in a back bedroom.
Firefighters believe the woman used an oxygen tank, which may have been a contributing factor to the high volume of fire.
The Red Cross was called in to assist another resident, an adult man, who was not at home at the time of the blaze but who has been displaced by it. The victim’s name has not been released.
