U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-17th of Niles, met with George Kubat, president and CEO of Phillips Manufacturing of Niles, Kubat’s management team, the United Steelworkers International Union and local union representatives Thursday in an effort to end the 4-month strike at Phillips Manufacturing.

“I want to thank Mr. Kubat and his team for making the trip from Omaha to help work towards resolving this labor dispute,” Ryan said in a written statement. “We had a constructive exchange of ideas with both sides offering creative solutions to the pending issues. While there is not yet an agreement, both sides demonstrated good faith and agreed to meet again in the very near future.”

The 44 members of United Steelworkers Local 4564 went on strike at the Walnut Street plant Sept. 13 after an impasse in contract negotiations.

So when is this country going to realize that Unions are the driving force behind sending companies overseas? We are 100 years away from sweat shops and child labor, its time to move on from the union mentality before China takes ALL of our jobs.

Idiot, sweatshops, child labor, long hours, low pay, dangerous working conditions are what caused unions to be started. Some of you people have your heads buried so far up your behinds you don even bother to check your facts. Unions were formed because the workers were tired of being victimized. Some are bad some are good, but corporate america is to blame for their creation.
