Benefit for animals
A media sale to benefit abused, neglected and unwanted pets and animals at the Humane Society of Columbiana County is set for Saturday at the society, 1825 S. Lincoln Ave. in Salem. Selections include DVDs, VHS, CDs and games from all genres, including comedy, children’s and action.
All proceeds support costs associated with the medical care provided to the animals cared for by the HSCC until they can be adopted.

20 traffic stops made during OVI blitz
A corridor enforcement blitz resulted in 20 traffic stops with one arrest by the Mahoning County OVI (operating a motor vehicle under the influence) Task Force last Friday.
Five task-force officers patrolled from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., focusing on Mahoning Avenue, which begins in Youngstown and continues into Austintown.
The arrest made was for a driver 21 and older operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Other stops resulted in one seat-belt citation, one citation for having no operator’s license, one citation for headlights required and one citation for no license-plate light.
