Warren woman accused of pepper-spraying Kmart worker

Published: Thu, January 24, 2013 @ 3:36 a.m.

BOARDMAN

A 19-year-old Warren woman accused of spraying a store employee with pepper spray will be in court today to face a robbery charge.

Kayla K. Dukes was arrested Tuesday at her Warren home by U.S. Marshals.

Police said Dukes was one of three women who tried to steal two shopping carts filled with toys Dec. 24 from Kmart on U.S. Route 224.

When confronted in a parking lot by a store employee, Dukes used pepper spray before joining the other two women in the car, a police report says.

The store employee told officers he counted 23 items in the carts, valued at more than $600, but said the women already had put a few toys in the car, police said.
