UPDATE: Several injured in Madison Avenue Expressway accident

Published: Thu, January 24, 2013 @ 11:05 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Several people were injured in a two-car crash at 9:45 a.m. today on the Madison Avenue Expressway south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard heading toward Interstate 680.

A car stopped on the expressway, possibly out of gasoline, according to city police at the scene, was struck by a sport utility vehicle, trapping some of the car’s passengers inside the vehicle for a short time until they could be extracted.

The cause of the crash may have been excessive speed for the slippery road conditions, police said.

No one was believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, although several were taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.
