Civil suit filed in 2012 alleged hazing incident

Published: Wed, January 23, 2013 @ 3:10 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Two city men who said they were seriously injured in a hazing ritual have sued the fraternity and 10 men alleged to be associated with it, including the nine men charged with felonious assault in a separate criminal case.

Resean M. Yancey, of North Osborn Avenue, and Breylon Stubbs, of Dryden Avenue, filed their civil lawsuit Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

The lawsuit is assigned to Judge James C. Evans, who is also handling the criminal matter, which is set for jury trial May 13.

The civil complaint, filed by Atty. James S. Gentile, requests a jury trial and more than $25,000 per plaintiff from each defendant.

The nightly beatings, which were allegedly part of the hazing ritual, reportedly occurred early last year in a South Side residence.
