City man gets prison term for abduction, assault of former girlfriend

Published: Wed, January 23, 2013 @ 4:00 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A 27-year-old man will be behind bars the next two years for abducting and assaulting his former girlfriend in 2011.

Prosecutors said Jose Antonio Velazquez, whose last known address was on Woodbine Avenue, convinced his former girlfriend to get into his car for a conversation on the Youngstown State University campus in August 2011.

Velazquez was ultimately charged with abduction, kidnapping and assault stemming from his interaction with the woman.

In December, Velazquez entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors wherein the kidnapping charged was dismissed and prosecutors agreed to recommend a two-year prison term on the remaining charges.
