Mooney's Simon out of Senior Bowl

Published: Tue, January 22, 2013 @ 7:34 p.m.

FAIRHOPE, ALA.

Ohio State defensive lineman John Simon, a Cardinal Mooney High graduate, will not play in Saturday’s Senior Bowl due to an undisclosed injury.

Simon was the Big Ten’s defensive player of the year but missed the regular season finale against Michigan with a knee injury. The Senior Bowl is a postseason collegiate all-star game featuring top NFL prospects.

Simon was practicing this week as an outside linebacker. He told FOX Sports Ohio that the injury was “some stuff from the season that hasn’t healed up yet. I tried to tough it out but couldn’t. I’m disappointed but I’ll be OK.”
