Autism society to sponsor educational, fun activities
The Austism Society of Ohio—Mahoning Valley will sponsor three events for families with ASD children. Activities will be age appropriate.
There will be a Build-A-Bear Workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at Build-A-Bear in Southern Park Mall in Boardman. The cost is $10 per child and families can enjoy a visit to the store that has been modified just for them. Early hours mean less crowding, narrowed choices mean less decision-making, and there will be limited lights, no music so less stimulation.
Volunteers will engage children in activities as they wait their turn. Only five registered children will be in the store at a time while the rest are at the play area in the food court. The first 20 participants will receive a free teddy bear T-shirt to decorate while they wait. Reservations are limited.
There will be a family bowling outing from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 2 at Camelot Lanes, 628 Boardman-Canfield Road. Bowling center staff and Autism Society volunteers will be on hand. The cost is $10 per person and includes bowling, rental shoes, pizza and pop.
A teen and young adult bowling league will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays, Feb. 9-March 16. It will include two games and will cost $7 each week, and will be staffed with coaches. There will be an award banquet at the close.
All of these opportunities need to have at least 10 participants to take place. RSVP at autismohio.org/mahoningvalley. For information call Andrea Cika at 330-501-7553.
