Men’s club will host seminar on ‘Slow Gardening’
The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown is sponsoring its annual winter seminar “Slow Gardening: Gardening on the EZ Side” from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 16 at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave. Registration will be at 8:15 a.m.
The cost is $40 before Feb. 9 and $50 for late registration. Registrations are transferable.
The seminar is limited to 144 participants.
Topics will include “Slow Gardening — Where to Begin”; “Simplifying Your Garden without Diminishing Your Joy”; “Getting Green in the Garden”; and “Rising Stars: New Plants Shine in 2013.”
Speakers are Felder Rushing, a 10th-generation American gardener with plenty of book learning and travel experience for his laid-back style.
He has written thousands of columns in syndicated publications, along with 17 gardening books, including his newest, “Slow Gardening.”
Debra Knapke is passionate about gardening and the natural world and enjoys sharing knowledge through her books, magazine and newsletter articles, guest appearances on the radio and teaching in the Landscape Design/Build Program at Columbus State Community College.
She is the author of five books, including “Best Garden Plants for Ohio.”
Maria Zampini is a fourth-generation nurserywoman. In 2009, she formed UpShoot LLC, a boutique business focusing on sales, marketing and licensing of new plant introductions.
In 2012, she was named Director of Plant Development for the HGTV Home Plant College.
Books by the authors will be available for sale and signing.
The seminar will include seminar material, continental breakfast, full buffet luncheon, raffle and door prizes, Fellows annual used-book sale and authors bookstore.
