Winbush recommended replacement on Mahoning elections board
Tracey Winbush of Youngstown has been recommended to serve on the Mahoning County Board of Elections.
Winbush would replace Clarence R. Smith Jr. of Boardman, who resigned this month after 15 years as a board member.
Winbush was unanimously recommended today by the county’s 36-member Republican Party executive committee and must be appointed by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, after successful completion of a background check.
Typically, Husted makes a decision on such appointments within a few weeks, said Mark Munroe, Mahoning County Republican Party chairman and board of elections chairman.
If appointed by Husted, Winbush would complete Smith’s unexpired term, which ends Feb. 28, 2014. The job pays about $15,000 annually and comes with full health care benefits.
