Man shot by gun dealer at Medina gun show

Published: Sat, January 19, 2013 @ 10:02 p.m.

Associated Press

Police say an accidental shooting at a gun show here has left one man with injuries in his arm and leg.

The shooting happened Saturday afternoon. Medina police Chief Pat Berarducci said a gun dealer was checking out a semiautomatic handgun he had just bought when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

Investigators believe the round hit the floor and struck a man standing nearby in the leg and arm.

The police chief sais the man was taken by helicopter to a Cleveland hospital, about 30 miles north of here.. His condition wasn’t known today.

Police said the gun’s magazine was loaded and had been pulled from the firearm, but one round remained in the chamber.

The chief said the victim and dealer are longtime friends.

This is what gives all gun owner's a bad reputation for being stupid. This is probably the most common accident with automatic pistols. It only takes a second to clear the chamber of a round after removing the magazine. Hope the wounded man recovers without life-changing injuries. This 'gun dealer' should stick to revolvers.

What possible reason would you have live bullets at a gun show indoors let alone in the gun itself? Sellers can't be to smart.

I've never been to a gun show where you can bring a loaded gun in.

This is a major violation of the first two rules of gun safety. I remember the first time I held a gun at ten years old. My uncle looked me straight in the eye and said "Before I hand you this gun you need to know two things: Every gun is loaded and never aim at anything you don't want to shoot." When taking possession of a gun or unlocking it from your safe the weapon should always be cleared and placed on safe if it has a safety. These are simple fundamentals everybody should know whether into shooting sports or not. Shame on this dealer. His license should be revoked.

The gun dealer "accidentally" put his finger inside the trigger guard and "accidentally" pulled the trigger? What kind of gun dealer is this idiot? I agree with johnbates4 - the dealer should have his license revoked. That kind of sloppiness has no place in an industry where mistakes can have serious or even fatal consequences.

This was the first accidental discharge of a firearm in 35 years of the Medina show. If you have never been there during times like we have now, the frenzy packs them in to where you cannot move around freely and must shuffle along with the crowd down each aisle. This probably contributed to the shooting, because of distractions the dealer was not diligent as he should have been in clearing each weapon...and checking it twice. You never pull a trigger around others without first checking the chamber. He was very, very lucky that his stupidity did not kill someone.

It's OK to have accidental shootings. I mean afterall, it was an accident. I think we can all live and accept that. Well all of us except usually the victim of the accident.

Same thing happened at gun shows in 2 other states yesterday. In Indiana and N. Carolina. Guess stupidity isn't just here at gun shows in Ohio.
