Student ambassadors prepare for Europe
More than 30 local students are preparing to travel to Europe this summer as part of President Eisenhower’s People to People Student Ambassador program.
Over the past 50 years, thousands of students nationwide have had the opportunity to learn about foreign cultures first-hand, including a home stay with a family in the destined country.
Students were interviewed in November following informational meetings, receiving recommendations and evaluations from their teachers and other adults, and are now doing fundraising for the 19-day learning experience. They will be meeting monthly with their leaders, Gary Reel and Harold Wilson, veteran Austintown educators, where they will learn about the countries to be visited and do team-building activities.
Separate delegations for junior high and high school groups have been formed, merging local students with other state delegations. Both groups will spend time traveling from Paris to Rome, visiting France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy along the way.
