Poland swimmers excel at YSU meet
The Poland swim team recently competed in an invitational meet at YSU, hosting more than 20 teams. The girls earned 177 points and placed third overall. Marissa Melillo was seventh in the 50 free and 11th in 100 free; Jaci Mullally took 11th in the 50 free; Kaelyn Weitzman finished seventh in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 back; and Maddie Evan was second in the 100 back and third in the 100 free.
The boys squad piled up 160 points and took fifth in the team standings. Finishing in the top 15 were Matt Misko (third, 200 IM; third, 100 breast), Sam Cowles (11th, 50 free; 10th, 100 free), Dave Robich (sixth, 500 free) and Anthony Lattanzio (sixth, 100 breast).
Softball sign-ups set for Austintown league
Austintown girls softball league (slow-pitch) sign-ups, which are open to all Mahoning Valley girls, will be at the Austintown Township hall Jan. 5-6 from noon until 4 p.m. There will also be a free skills clinic at Austintown Middle School from 3-5 p.m. on Jan. 19. Additional sign-ups will be Feb. 2, 3, 16, and 17 from noon until 4 p.m.

It’s winter sports season. Your young athletes haves started playing, and it promises to be a great season filled with game-winning shots, wrestling tournaments, strikes and spares, balance beam routines and swim meets. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a winter sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. If you send it, it will get in.
