Rep. Ryan serves on two subcommittees

YOUNGSTOWN — U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th, has been selected to serve on two U.S. House Appropriations subcommittees — Defense, and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development.

The two subcommittees oversee about $600 billion in discretionary funding, Ryan said.

Ryan returned to the Appropriations Committee earlier this month. He served four years on the powerful committee before losing his seat in January 2011 when Republicans took control of the House and lowered the number of Democrats on the committee from 37 to 21.

He also served on the Defense Subcommittee before losing that seat.

Ryan also serves on the House Budget Committee.
