MLK Dream Team celebration planned
The Trumbull County MLK Dream Team presents the 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 7 p.m. Friday at New Jerusalem Fellowship, 1948 Palmyra Road SW.
Guest speaker is Vincent Peterson II, a 23-year-old Warren native who has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology from Villanova University.
Immediately after the observance, there will be a concert presented by the Warren City Wide Youth Choir. The choir is made up of youth and young adults from various churches in the Warren area with more than 60 active members.
A free-will offering will be taken to support the Trumbull MLK Dream Team fund and the 2013 scholarship fund.
Habitat plans to dedicate new home
Habitat for Humanity will dedicate a new home at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The home at 4070 Glenwood Ave. is being built for the Skerritt family and will be on display during an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tours and refreshments will be available.
Carrie Skerritt, the new homeowner, has completed more than the 300 hours of required “sweat equity” and met Habitat’s income and credit guidelines, according to a news release.
She will buy the home from Habitat later this month at the appraised value — with no profit to Habitat — with a 0 percent interest loan, and a mortgage calculated to be affordable for her income, the release stated.
More than 250 volunteers worked on the home, beginning construction in August and raising the walls Sept. 15.
“Bridges Out of Poverty,” an interactive experience to help the community understand poverty, is planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at Williamson Elementary School, 58 Williamson Ave.
Sponsors are YWCA of Youngstown, Junior Civic League and Junior League of Youngstown.
The program will be facilitated by Ohio Association of Foodbanks.
Registration is $12 per person and includes breakfast and lunch. Make checks payable to YWCA and send to YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, OH 44503.
Reservation deadline is Friday. Call Rita Cintavey at 330-746-6361 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
