Jamael Tito Brown files to run for Youngstown mayor

YOUNGSTOWN — City Council President Jamael Tito Brown filed nominating petitions today to run in the Democratic primary in May for Youngstown mayor.

Brown is the third candidate to file for the Democratic primary. The two others are John McNally IV, a former Mahoning County commissioner and Youngstown law director, and Matthew Smith.

Brown won’t seek election to council president, a position he’s held since August 2011.

Brown was elevated from 3rd Ward councilman to council president when Charles Sammarone left the post to be mayor.

Feb. 6 is the filing deadline for those wanting to run in the primary.
