Man arrested on domestic-violence charge

A father who could no longer withstand an argument between his daughter and his brother at a home on Crum Road threatened to kill them both and take his own life with a shotgun, authorities said.

Austintown Police Chief Robert Gavalier said the incident probably was provoked by the fact that the father, only being described for now as a white male in his 30s, had been drinking.

After one of the family members managed to escape the home at 4203 Crum Road, police were called. Gavalier said that once officers realized the father was inside the home with either “a rifle or a shotgun,” the crisis response team was called in, prompting Youngstown police officers and Mahoning County deputy sheriffs to respond.

However, the incident, which began about 6 p.m., according to neighbors watching nearby, was resolved by 7:30. No one was hurt, and the father was arrested and charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of inducing panic.
