Among programs offered by the UMCC sites are:
B.I.L.L. and G.A.I.L.: The programs are for 7- to 17-year-olds of both sexes and focus on building self-esteem, mentoring and community service. Building Individual Life Lessons is for males, and Getting Ahead In Life is for females. The programs are in all Youngstown city schools and at the center in Warren.
Family Focus: This service provides material assistance and education to parents and their children on health, nutrition, money management, education and community resources.
Food distribution: Third Thursday of the month; veterans are served from 10 a.m. to noon and families from 1 to 3 p.m.
Stoplift: County courts refer first-time shoplifting offenders to this educational program. It focuses on juveniles in Trumbull County and adults in Mahoning County.
Summer camp: For students in kindergarten through 12th grades, the program includes academic enrichment, character education, field trips, nutrition education and healthful meals.
TIP: The truancy intervention program works with students and their families to improve academics and attendance.
