Three people were arraigned by video at municipal court Friday on charges of burglary and felonious assault that stemmed from two separate incidents the day before.
Daniel Lee Kelley, 19, of Cortland, was arraigned on one count of felonious assault after police said he stabbed a 17-year-old outside the Burger King on South State Street shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.
Police said an argument that began in the restaurant escalated into a fight outside. According to reports, witnesses said Kelley followed a group of males outside the restaurant and “squared up.”
Witnesses said Kelley appeared to have a blade in his hand, before he struck the victim in the his upper left abdomen. Police said Kelley used a pocket-knife to stab the victim before he fled the scene. The report said Kelley turned himself in to police a short time later.
Police said they found the victim in the restaurant bleeding heavily before he was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. His condition was unknown Friday.
Judge Jeffrey D. Adler set Kelley’s bail at $5,000.
A married couple also were arraigned on one count of burglary that occurred hours before the stabbing at Burger King. Jacob M. Burchell, 28, and Nicole M. Burchell, 26, both of Niles, were arrested after a caller notified police of a man and woman breaking into a home at the 800 block of Lawrence Avenue shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.
Police said they arrested both Burchells in the home’s kitchen while two “small children” sat in the rear seat of a 2001 Chrysler Sebring parked in the driveway.
Adler said Jacob Burchell was charged with burglary in Arkansas in 2004.
The court set Nicole Burchell’s bail at $7,500 and Jacob M. Burchell’s at $10,000.
Nicole Burchell, Jacob Burchell and Kelley are scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday at 1 p.m.
All three are in the Trumbull County Jail.
