Poland Middle School seventh- and eighth-graders put on a holiday concert in Poland Seminary High School’s auditorium Dec. 13 for their friends and families.
The seventh-grade band started the evening with a rendition of “Jingle All the Way,” conducted by special guest and high school band director, Nick Olesko. The band then moved into other such great holiday songs as “The First Noel” and “A Swinging Holiday,” which was performed in a swing style that paid tribute to music legend Dave Brubeck, according to a speech given by PMS band director Jeff Hvizdos.
The eighth-grade band took the stage next to give their portion of the concert. They also performed a song directed by Olesko, the holiday favorite from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Percussion instructor Kevin Downs came on stage and directed the percussion section feature “Oh Christmas Tree.” The final song of the evening was a medley of Mannheim Steamroller holiday tunes.
